New Brunswick, NJ – October 29, 2014 V.J. SCOZZARI & SONS, INC. is proud to announce that two of the projects the company recently completed have been recognized for Merit Awards at the Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. New Jersey Chapter 2014 Excellence in Construction Awards Ceremony. The event was attended by over 250 contractors, associates and professionals in New Brunswick, NJ, where the awards were presented.
The first Merit Award was presented for the recently completed renovations, alterations, re-purposing, and reuse of the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts at the Grounds for Sculpture. The project included complete interior and exterior renovations and alternations that converted a flex-space warehouse building into a world class, state-of-the-art home for renowned Grounds for Sculpture. With the exception of the structure itself nearly every component of the building was modified and improved in response to strategic plan recommendations and visitor feedback. From the replacement of the roof to the resurfacing of the floors, every component of the building including entirely new plumbing, specially design mechanical, electrical, lighting, and sound systems were installed. Acoustical treatments were a high priority in every component of the project. Exterior improvement to the facility included an entirely repositioned entrance to the facility which included new entrance drives, parking, drop off areas, exterior viewing spaces and galleries, as well as landscaping and hardscaping improvements. Michael Unger, Chief Administrative Officer commented that “There were many challenges in meeting the different functions we intended the facility to serve, in addition to the complexities of working in a 42 acre sculpture park and arboretum with more than 165,000 annual visitors. Priorities evolved throughout the long design, pre-construction and value engineering phases and the Scozzari team navigated the relationships and the changing priorities with skill.” For more information on The Grounds for Sculpture visit www.groundsforsculpture.org.
The second Merit Award the firm received was in recognition of the recently completed Freedom Village Hopewell. This new supportive housing neighborhood consisted of six buildings containing 72 fully assessable apartments, a 5,000 square foot community building, a wood framed gazebo and other site amenities. The new development was designed to comply with New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program TM and the NJ ENERGY STAR® Homes Program in accordance with the State of New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) Green Homes program. This community is the third supportive housing neighborhood V. J. Scozzari & Sons, Inc. completed for Project Freedom, a relationship that started in 1999 and continues today with the start of a fourth community in August in Toms River New Jersey.
